--

A no-pressure opportunity to hang out with other ND community members and connect around a shared interest - movies! We will get cozy and watch the movie Everything Everywhere All at Once (2022, Rated R, Run Time: 2h 15min). A 30-minute “end-of-movie open discussion” is built into the time allotted for this event, to support processing/integrating/connecting, but it is optional to stay for this part of the gathering.

Why we chose this:
While this film is not explicitly about ADHD, it strongly resonates with the ADHD experience. The movie shows a protagonist (Evelyn) overwhelmed by life, feeling scattered, and exhibiting classic traits like distractibility and anxiety, leading many viewers with ADHD to feel seen and understood. The multiverse concept itself mirrors the feeling of being "everywhere all at once" in one's mind, and characters display behaviors often associated with the experience of ADHD, making it a relatable, albeit intense, cinematic exploration of the neurotype's internal landscape.
Fun Fact: Co-director Daniel Kwan discovered his own ADHD while making the film, finding parallels between his personal experience and the chaotic storytelling, which ultimately influenced the film's chaotic yet purposeful structure.

Disclaimer:
This movie is loved by many neurodivergent folks, especially ADHD and AuDHD people, but it can also be very intense. This movie is intentionally chaotic; confusion is part of the experience. It is often cited as an ADHD/AuDHD felt experience. Participants are welcome to step out, stim, multitask, or skip parts as needed - your nervous system comes first.

Content warnings:
Everything Everywhere All at Once contains rapid scene changes, intense visual effects, flashing imagery, loud and sudden sounds, and a fast-paced, nonlinear narrative that may be overstimulating or cognitively demanding. The film includes stylized martial-arts violence, occasional blood, absurd or crude humor, and brief body-horror–adjacent moments. Emotionally, it explores themes of existential distress, burnout, depression, family conflict, cultural pressure, and feeling misunderstood or overwhelmed. While there are no explicit depictions of suicide or self-harm, there is metaphorical imagery and dialogue related to hopelessness and self-erasure that may be activating for some viewers. Viewers are encouraged to take breaks, step out, stim, or disengage as needed.
