Join neurodivergent clinician and Art Therapist Erica O’Connell in a creative exploration of the experience of ‘masking’. Participants will reflect on their personal experience of masking or camouflaging to fit into a neurotypical world and then create a mask to offer a non-verbal expression of this experience. The masks created will help us to further identify and explore what aspects of self are often suppressed and which are consciously and unconsciously outward-facing.
Please bring yourself, an openness to create, and a journal if desired. All other materials will be provided. No prior art experience needed.
WHAT TO EXPECT:
- this event will take place in the HH yoga studio
- lighting will be low (no overhead lighting) with option for attendees to sit closer to lighting if/as needed
- floor seating is most conducive to art-making in this setting (no tables) so please do what you need to be comfortable (e.g. comfy clothes, supports of any kind) - backjacks (little floor chairs), blankets, bolsters, and blocks are all available if/as desired
- fidgets and/or comfort items, or any other supports are very much welcome
- snacks and drinks are both completely fine to have in the studio, you are welcome to bring either or both with you, and we have tea and water available at the center as well
- please refrain from wearing fragrances for the comfort of all attending
