Creating Your Future

So far, on our journey together in this blog, we have spent time looking primarily at the past and how it has contributed to who we are in the present. We do this not to relive the past, or to dwell on it - quite the contrary. We examine the past so that we may release it. By using an increased awareness of our past as context for understanding the things that are not working in the present, we begin to make the unconscious conscious, and step into our ability to create a different future by giving ourselves the space to choose something new.

So on this very first day of 2018, I invite you to use your understanding of your past as a catalyst to identify the patterns that no longer serve you. Meet yourself with compassion for where these thoughts, feelings, and behaviors have come from - but know that you have permission to no longer carry them with you.

The process of learning is really an unlearning.
— A Course in Miracles

Spend some time reflecting on the below inquiries - this can be done in a journal, a sketchbook, movement, or quiet introspection - whatever works for you:

  • What do you need to release and/or unlearn?
  • Are there any supports from your environment, community, family or friends that can help you identify, in a compassionate way, when these unconscious thoughts, feelings or behaviors present themselves so that you may choose differently?
  • What do you want to create for yourself?
  • Visualize being in this new reality. Cultivate the feeling that the reality which you are calling to you creates, and spend some time in it - let the feeling be so real that it fills you.

In visualizing a new reality for yourself, you are spending time in direct contact with your own divine nature, higher self, soul - whatever word(s) resonate for you. From this space of intentionally designing your future, you stand in your purest potential as a powerful creator.

What we get is a reflection of who we are being. Ever notice that when you tell yourself "it's going to be a bad day," it usually turns out to be? And do you notice that the reverse is also true? Have you ever believed so strongly that you will have something that you are not even surprised when you receive it? It was a given - except it wasn't. You called it into your experience.

There is much more to get into here - and we will - but for now, know this: you, just as you are in this moment, are the embodiment of infinite possibilities. You really do get to choose. Connect with your heart and cultivate compassionate self-awareness so that you can create a life you love.

Wishing you a 2018 (and beyond!) that brings you an experiential recognition of the magnitude of your incredible potential.
